Nine-year-old girls should be playing, learning and enjoying childhood. But in Iran, many young girls are forced to grow up and marry a man often more than twice their age. Worse, the government condones and promotes child marriage. It’s descipable.
No nine-year-old is mentally ready to enter a lifelong covenant like marriage or physically ready to have sex or bear children. I was so outraged that I signed this petition on Care2 to the Iranian government asking them to change their position and ban — not legalize — child marriage.
