Catholic church tells bishops that it’s ‘not necessarily’ their duty to report sex abuse by priests | DeadState

A training document released last week by the Vatican, which was issued to newly inducted bishops, states that it is “not necessarily” their duty to report accusations of clerical child abuse and that “only victims or their families should make the decision to report abuse to police.”

  1. This should surprise me, but with the Catholic Churches past history on this I m not. What I am is very concerned re the safety of children within the church. It should be the responsibility of everyone to report any concerns of abuse. Children are vulnerable and should always be safe where ever they go, we all need to be vigilant

The Vatican should be ashamed for this publication and shows that safeguarding is not a priority for the church.
