Dementia is a syndrome, a collection of symptoms resulting from damage to the brain. There are many different types
of dementia, the most common being Alzheimer’s disease. Different types of dementia have different symptoms, as they
all affect slightly different parts of the brain.
Dementia causes problems with:
• Memory
• Thinking speed
• Mental agility
• Understanding
• Judgement.
As a result, it can cause:
• Memory loss
• Confusion
• Difficulty finding the right words
• Difficulty with numbers
• Changes in mood and behaviour.
