A Party for the people, but not the people of Liverpool Walton. Is this really what the Labour Party has come to for how come can the NEC speak for the local party at Liverpool Walton, surely it should them and them alone who should decide on their own candidate.

Is this democracy not working in the Labour party at a national level.


Liverpool city mayor Joe Anderson has hit out at Labour’s National Executive Committee after it appointed an aide of Unite boss Len McCluskey to stand in one of the party’s safest seats. Labour officials announced this afternoon that they had selected Daniel Carden, a little known outsider, as candidate for Liverpool Walton. The announcement came after the constituency’s former MP Steve Rotheram had announced he was standing down and called on the party to select a local candidate. Mr Anderson, who has been mayor of Liverpool since 2012 and was previously the leader of Liverpool City Council, said the decision shows Labour is “not always a meritocracy”.
He said: “I put myself forward for the selection in Liverpool Walton on my track record of running a successful Labour council in a major city and my desire to use those skills for Walton, for Liverpool and a new Labour government. ”Apparently…
