  1. I commend Professor Martin Green OBE and Care England for putting this representation to the Health & Social Care Select Committee, as I agree that funding and the workforce are of a great priority within Social Care.

For Social Care is in crisis and has been well before COVID-19 and urgent action by this Government is required, for if there is no action or insufficient action then Social Care within the UK could well disappear to a large extent.

I feel so strongly about this and therefore created the petition, Solve the crisis in Social Care, https://you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/solve-the-crisis-in-social-care

    with further information, https://www.dropbox.com/s/74ckd926thbrlo8/Solve%20the%20crisis%20in%20Social%20Care%205.docx?dl=0

Many persons in need of Social Care are not receiving the quantity and quality of care they require to live reasonable lives, which many of us who are not in need of Social Care take for granted.

There is also the Unison Ethical Care Charter, http://www.savecarenow.org.uk/ethical-care-charter, which Local Authorities (LAs) can sign up to and many have.

But to implement the Charter the LAs will need the funding, which currently they do not have, especially after over 10 years of austerity cuts and the additional costs they are having with regards to the COVID-19 situation. Additional costs for increased need of services and loss of income due to social isolation meaning Leisure Centers, shops, etc are closing thereby loss of fees and business rates.

This Government needs to act and act now to sufficiently fund all LAs so they can Solve the crisis in Social Care and indoing so provide the quality and quantity of Social Care which is required by disabled and vulnerable people within the UK.

For if Social Care fails, then the Health Services (NHS) will suffer and be in need of more funding, while safeguarding concerns will extensively be increasing.

The Government has a Duty of Care, which currently they are not abiding by and not delivering.
