LONDON (Reuters) – Almost one million public-sector workers in Britain are to be given above-inflation pay rises, the government said on Tuesday, to reflect their work during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Pay rises for some, but no extra funding as the pay rises have to come from existing funding, which means less to spend in other areas relating to those professions.
However, carer workers within the caring profession also suffered badly during the lockdown and still do, but no mention of pay rises there and these workers are already on very low wages, many just on or slightly or just above the National Living Wage.
Yes, you may say, they are not public-sector funded workers, but in a way they are, because the Government funds the local authorities, who in turn pay the service providers so they then pay their workers.
In fact, some care workers are employed directly by the person to whom they care for and the person receives funding from either the local authority or Continuing Health Care via Direct Payments or Personal Health Budgets, for the person to pay their own care workers.
But funding to Local Authorities has been drastically cut over the last 11 years by Government austerity measures causing less to be available for social care. This has created a extreme shortage of care workers, when the need is raising rapidly.
To counter this and other areas I created the petition, Solve the crisis in Social Care, https://you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/solve-the-crisis-in-social-care
