Four in ten English councils lack confidence they will have enough social workers to meet their needs over the next year, as the vast majority struggle to recruit experienced practitioners, a government study has found. Thirty two per cent of directors of children’s services (DCSs) said they were ‘not very confident’ that they would have enough […]

Hollyoaks Star Talia Grant Says Black People Treated As ‘Disposable’ On TV

It is a sad reflection on our Society that after all this time the opportunities for ‘black’ persons to gain employment are in some instances severely limited. Positions should be given on merit and not related to skin colour, but in many instances a white person ill have an advantage over a black person purely due to the colour of their skin.

This should be routed out, but the employers are very skilled in covering the racism aspects. Also, if you have not been subjected to racism, then it is, at times, difficult to notice it and white persons are very rarely, if at all, experienced in receiving racist actions.

More should be speaking out, but the risk of losing or not gaining employment is a big factor in restricting speaking out.

Unfortunately racism will never be eradicated, because changing peoples perceptions is not easy to do, especially when they do not wish to change.

It may appear to disappear to some extent, but underground it will still be there, to come forth when racists feel they can do so.

Brexit was a prime example as some racists viewed the result as an affirmative that racism was now more popular, but, hopefully, that was not so.

Due to colonialism many wrongs were made to natives of other continents, to which there has been no recompense from the countries of The West, of which Britain was the main contender.

Nothing can be done to fully right these wrongs, not only to the natives of these countries, but also to the mineral resources, which created large scale wealth for certain individuals of The Western countries, for which again no recompense as been made, not even apologies meant or otherwise.

We now need to ensure that the ancestors of the original natives are not still being persecuted by many forms of racism for if they are we are all as guilty as our own ancestors.

STOP RACISM NOW

Same Difference

Hollyoaks actress Talia Grant has spoken about how the TV industry, “like life in general”, treats black people as being “disposable”.

She told the soap’s Don’t Filter Your Feelings podcast that the media “can capitalise off of us without actually doing the real work behind the scenes”.

Grant, 18, was discussing racism alongside co-stars Trevor A Toussaint and Richard Blackwood.

It comes a month after Rachel Adedeji said she witnessed racism on the soap.

Grant, who plays Brooke on the Channel 4 soap, told the podcast: “It’s amazing that there is a black cast, and there’s all of us, and there is that diversity.

“But I can’t help but feel that sometimes in the industry, and in life in general, they treat black people like we’re disposable.”

She said she had “dealt with difficult situations and micro aggressions” on the soap.

The actress added: “It’s great for us to…
