Revoke Article 50 – Petition link!

So, a Petition has received more than 1 Million signatures, but the 2016 Referendum received more than 17 Million votes. The 17 million were accused of not knowing what they were doing because the information that was produced in support of leaving, was, we are told not completely correct. But neither was the information supporting remain.

It is assumed by persons wishing to remain that if we stay in the EU, that the EU will continue as it is, but what about the threat to proceed to further political union, what will this entail, have we been informed. Will we be in control of our military forces, will we still be able to decide on our own legislation, will taxes and other forms of obtaining finance still be within our control.

Will we still have an independent Government, or will it be so depleted to be as Local Government is today.

These are major issues, which currently we have not received any information on, so voting to stay is as much in the dark as voting to leave. I voted in the 1975 referendum and voted to stay within the EEC, now transformed to the EU. Did I vote for the EU, no I did not and nobody did. We could have voted on these issues, but, one, Tony Blair and other Prime Ministers did not allow a public vote. We are now told because of the lies and misinformation we should have a peoples vote, as though the vote in 2016 was not a peoples vote, so what did vote in 2016, were they not people?

We are told there are now people who were too young to vote in 2016, so they should now be allowed to express their vote but was this not the case in 1975. In 1975 there were also lies and untruths, for were we told of the wish or desire to proceed with Political Union, which we are now advised was known in 1975. I voted to stay in the EEC, but not the EU, I and many others have been denied that right since 1975.

All that is being said about the wrongs in 2016 could also be said of the 1975. But there is a major difference, in 1975 the vote was to stay, was this what the Establishment wished for, but in 2016 we voted to leave and that appears to be not what the Establishment wished for. Sour grapes by the losers in 2016, but not the losers in 1975. As 1975 was allowed to stand, so should 2016, whether i be right or wrong, just as in 1975. To say otherwise means that the democratic principles are not being adhered to and that means why should anyone really vote again, as it appears no matter what the result the Establishment will do as they please, is that not the ideals of a dictatorship?

Opher's World

Put an end to this Brexit madness!! Put a stop to the extreme Right running the country!!

Sod the ERG!!

Revoke Article 50 and remain in the EU.

The government repeatedly claims exiting the EU is ‘the will of the people’. We need to put a stop to this claim by proving the strength of public support now, for remaining in the EU. A People’s Vote may not happen – so vote now.

What is good about the EU?

To some extent this is correct, as the more you are together you should be able to live in harmony.

However, in every area there will be those who will never abide by this context, as racism ever present and with some people it will never leave.

But racism is not always easy to see and in many instances it is covert, for is the Burka ban not some element of racism.

Surely people should be free to wear what they wish, is it not their human right and this is but one example, there will be many others.

But with so many countries and then so many different elements within each of those countries can it really be possible to rule every one of them the same.

Even when it come, just to the UK, there are very varied requirements required in many areas and this can only be looked at a local level.

With the bureaucracy of the EU it is all but impossible to achieve this locality insight, especially with the extent of political union that the bureaucrats of Brussels wish to come forth.

To achieve any extent of looking after any areas they need a great deal of autonomy and I feel this will not be achievable within the EU, in fact we could lose the little we have already.

I am not against free movement of people, when the movement is for obtaining work, but if it is to gain welfare benefits, then the movement should be restricted. So let there be free movement, while retaining the ability to remove persons if the intentions are not to work and also possibly have criminal intent.

It is for these and many more reasons we need to retain and increase the government of ourselves, by ourselves. Within this benefitical rights need to be maintained and be more extensive.

Opher's World

Like most things the EU is not a black and white entity. These are some of the good things that come to my mind:

It brings together a large number of countries, closely allying them, interlinking them through trade and enabling them to talk, share and understand each other. I believe that close contact prevents friction and reduces the possibility of war.

It produces frictionless trade.

It enables free movement of people between countries and gives people the opportunity to study, work and travel easily.

It is powerful as a bloc – giving greater voice to the rest of the world.

It creates an outward looking society that encourages respect of other cultures and counters that insular feeling that can so easily develop into a feeling of superiority and arrogance.

It enables much productive collaboration between nations and enables funding of bigger projects. It brings together a wider range of…

A Second Referendum – the final decision.

You have a good point, but which of those will the EU allow and none of them mention the right of the UK to decide who comes and who stays within the UK.

I am not adverse to immigration provided the immigrants come to work and are prepared to contribute to the UK and abide by our rules of law and Society.

If some do not work and/or commit crimes then they should be deported irrespective of their family life here.

Opher's World

Now we know more about what is involved with Brexit I think it is only right that we have a democratic say. As there are a number of options I would suggest that instead of a binary decision we allow the people to decide what flavour we prefer.

I suggest a referendum based on the following:

a. A complete break from the EU.

b. We break with the political union but stay within the Single Market and Customs Union.

c. We break with the political union but stay within the Single Market.

d. We break with the political union but stay within the Customs Union.

e. We remain within the EU.

I think that might give us a better idea of the thinking of the British people. What do you think?

The problems with the NHS!

This would appear to be a valid argument, but within the last Labour manifesto there were so many areas which would require an increase in costs would all be deliverable and if not which ones would be cut.

Surely a more realistic manifesto be more deliverable and believable for it may be an impossibility to deliver on all areas of assumed injustice..

Opher's World

The NHS was voted the best health service in the world. But certainly it has been under strain and is not coping. The reasons are quite easy to understand:

The dedicated staff are being worked to death. They are understaffed. There aren’t enough beds, doctors or nurses. It is being grossly underfunded. Minor injuries units are being shut down all over the country. There is creeping privatisation. Nurses are leaving in droves. They are having to bring in expensive agency staff. Social care cuts are leaving elderly and disabled in hospital beds instead of being cared for at home.

The simple fact is that the Tories are making a mess of it.

Under Labour:

Fair pay for doctors and nurses.

Bursaries for nurse training

4% increase on spending per year

Social care for the elderly and those in need

Under the Tories

A 7 year pay cut for doctors and…

Cooperation not Competition!! Nationalisation not Profit for the Boys!!

Whatever we do in the UK is a fudge.

Take privatisation, supposedly to introduce competition but how can there be competition when there is only one operator.

Then re-nationalisation supposedly for profits to be reinvested, but are they reinvested or are they creamed off by the Government of the day.

Pre-privatisation many of the nationalised industries were deprived of much need investment and investment was used on a political basis.

Theoretically nationalisation should be good for the majority, but if it is not applied effectively on a practical basis it will not be good for the majority.

Opher's World

It is obvious isn’t it?  We don’t need competition we need cooperation.

People work better in teams with a common aim. We don’t need them arbitrarily divided into profit-making groups. We want national services that are fairly priced and not geared to generate profit for rich people but to provide services for us.

All this drive to privatisation and competition is doing is putting money in the pockets of the rich.

We privatise universities and schools and suddenly the Vice Chancellors and SuperHeads are on vast salaries.

We privatise healthcare and the costs go through the roof as profits are creamed off.

We privatise the railways and fares go through the roof as profits are creamed off.

We privatise energy and the coasts soar.

We privatise the Post Office and the cost of a stamp goes through the ceiling.

We privatise water and our bills shoot up.

When will we learn?…

Protest Donald Trump’s Visit! We’ve got enough Racists Thanks!!

Opher's World

Incredible. In just 24 hours more than 100,000 people have signed the petition calling on the Prime Minister to cancel Donald Trump’s visit to the UK

But to make it impossible for Theresa May to ignore our voices, we need even more people to join us. If we can double the size of the petition and get 100,000 more people to add their names today, we can show her the British public won’t tolerate racism and hatred. Today we can prove that Trump, and all that he stands for, is not welcome in Britain.

Will you help get this petition to 200,000 signatures by the end of the day by sharing it with your friends and family? Just click on the buttons below to share on Facebook or WhatsApp, or there’s an email below you can forward to your friends.

If everyone reading this email right now shares the petition…

Is religion defunct in this day and age?

My own views on religions are contained in my post from 2012, Religions, what are they for? and in many ways my thoughts have not changed.

So I do not wish to remove any religions from today’s world, but they all do need to reflect how their supposed original teachings or basic concepts relate to the world as it is now. None should debase the others and their followers need to act accordingly as tolerance and understanding of others points of view should be, always, the way forward.

PEACE

Opher's World

The three Abrahamic religions started up way back in the dawn of time – in a time of medieval ignorance.

Judaism has its roots 3000 years ago.

Christianity 2000 years ago.

Islam 1500 years ago.

They originated in nomadic tribes of Arabs in a small area of the Middle East renowned for its many sects and religious fanatics.

They all claim that ‘God’ spoke to their originator when they were alone in a cave, up a mountain or in the wilderness – with no witnesses.

None of the originators wrote anything down.

The writings in the holy books were either accumulated from the prevailing genesis stories or myths or written down generations later from accounts passed down by word of mouth. Yet the adherents claim they are the exact word of God (despite the inconsistencies, obvious social context pertaining to that Arab culture, ambiguities and contradictions).

These holy words have…

Trump’s Achievements in a nutshell!

Not even a week as gone, but Trump is causing problems that we may never recover from, America what have you done.

Opher's World

These seem to be some of the main proposals:

  1. To bring back torture
  2. To intensify the war in the Middle East (a second war on terror? – didn’t the first one spawn ISIS?)
  3. To alienate Iran
  4. To build a pipeline regardless of environmental impact and treaties with the native Americans
  5. To tear up environmental treaties – denying climate change, environment destruction and pollution
  6. To do away with Health Care for poorer people
  7. To do away with legislation on health and safety, work standards and pollution
  8. To reinvigorate dirty polluting industries (coal, oil, gas, fracking ……)
  9. To bully Mexico and start a trade war so he can say they paid for the wall
  10. To ban Muslims from a number of countries from entering America
  11. To build a wall
  12. To tear up trade deals
  13. To ban all forms of protest and marches
  14. To bully the media, call them liars and brand the media…

The Reasons for Brexit, Trump and the rise of Fascism

Opher's World

There has been a huge swing towards extreme Right-wing policies in Europe and the USA. We have the re-emergence of the Ku Klux Klan and White supremacists, heartened by the election of Trump, we have the resurgence of Fascist parties in France, Austria and Holland and left-wing/centralist governments being under threat from right-wing groups, emboldened by the potential break-up of the EU. In Britain we have had Brexit and now have the most right-wing government since Thatcher. Labour is trailing 20 points behind in the polls. Things look dire.

So what has gone wrong for the whole dream of equality and liberalisation? Is it over? What about empathy, compassion and equality?

Well if we are going to get back to a compassionate liberal society we have to look at the reasons why people have turned to fascists like Trump and believed the lies of Boris, Gove and May. Things have…

Billy Bragg – It Says Here – Lyrics about the media – Can we have democracy if the information we are fed is false?

True, and it should be said that there will always be two sides to every story, but is it only two sides or could it be more?

Opher's World

In order for people to be able to make decisions on important issues and electable candidates it is necessary to have access to unbiased information. Failing that it is important to have information from different sides of the argument with a clear knowledge of what the bias is.

Unfortunately this is far from the case. All our information in the media is biased towards the establishment. Information on the web comes from a number of dubious sources for a variety of reasons.

Our newspapers are owned by exceedingly rich individuals and feed us with a pile of lies, exaggerations and rubbish. They would prefer that we do not think about issues at all and concentrate on celebrity nonsense, fashion, trivia, Royals and sex. What they do put out is strongly biased to feed us the story they want us to believe.

The BBC has a reputation for being objective. This is…
