US President Donald Trump doubled down Sunday on his insistence that America needs tighter restrictions on immigration, as the world reacted with outrage to his decision to suspend refugee arrivals and impose tough new controls on travelers from seven Muslim countries.

“Our country needs strong borders and extreme vetting, NOW,” Trump said in a tweet. “Look what is happening all over Europe and, indeed, the world – a horrible mess!”

US airports and other sites across the United States, including the White House, were expected to see a second wave of protests Sunday against Trump’s temporary immigration ban, which a federal judge partially blocked by ordering authorities not to deport detained refugees and other travelers.

The ruling also coincided with a wave of anger and concern abroad, including among US allies.

Stop Making Sense

President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker,Angela Merkel could move to oust Europe’s federalist chief Jean-Claude Juncker ‘within the next year’, a Germany government minister has said, in a sign of deepening European divisions over how to respond to Britain’s Brexit vote.

The German chancellor’s frustration with the European Commission chief came as Europe split over whether to use the Brexit negotiations as a trigger to deepen European integration or take a more pragmatic approach to Britain as it heads for the exit door.

“The pressure on him [Juncker] to resign will only become greater and Chancellor Merkel will eventually have to deal with this next year,” an unnamed German minister told The Sunday Times, adding that Berlin had been furious with Mr Juncker “gloating” over the UK referendum result.

Mr Juncker’s constant and unabashed calls for “more Europe”, has led to several of Europe other dissenting members –…

Chancellor Angela Merkel’s ruling conservatives have suffered humiliating losses to the anti-immigrant Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) party in three key state elections seen as a referendum on her “open door” refugee policy which allowed more than a million migrants to enter the country last year. The real shock of Sunday night’s polling was the scale of AfD’s gains, which easily entered all three legislatures.

Shrey's Notepad: The Quest for Knowledge

A brief glimpse into the problems that the Euro is presenting for the Greek people. A brief glimpse into the problems that the Euro is presenting for the Greek people.

The debate over Greece leaving the Eurozone has been raging for a matter of years now. Some believe that Greece staying in the Eurozone is axiomatic, in that a Greek exit from the Euro would ravage the economy, perhaps causing hyperinflation. Others argue to look at the other side of the coin, and propagate the idea that a Greece exit would attenuate the suffering of the Greek people, as they might only have to suffer for the next 10 years, rather than the next 50. Personally, it is my firm belief; my avowal, if you will, that Greece should leave the eurozone, and start a new era, having ended the old era of economic pain.

Almost at the very command of Angela Merkel, the Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras was forced to impose harsher austerity members than the previous…
