Coronavirus Briefing: Remember Brexit? It’s back : euronews

Four years ago this month, the British public narrowly voted to leave the European Union. What followed – years of protracted debate and animosity – painted a picture of a country utterly divided. But a deal was finally reached and the United Kingdom did leave on January 31 this year.

While the UK has settled its divorce, it remains in a transition period until the end of this year. A year in which it must abide by the rules of membership, while enjoying the privileges. Ultimately though, the transition period is about achieving an orderly settlement on what the future relationship will be.

UK and EU negotiators are understood to have reached a tentative agreement on their future relationship surrounding services, as well as the exchange of data, with just five months to go before Britain leaves.

With five months to secure a Brexit deal before Britain is due to leave the EU, business leaders are demanding certainty over the kind of trade terms the divorce will deliver.

The services deal would give UK companies access to European markets as long as British financial regulation remained broadly aligned with the EU’s, The Times reported.

Following the news, the British pound was up nearly 1 percent versus the dollar overnight at 1.28 US dollars.

Messing with Brexit puts Yes victory at risk, warns Sillars : The Scotsman

Nicola Sturgeon’s attempts to undermine Brexit could sabotage the SNP’s chances of achieving Scottish independence, the party’s former deputy leader has warned.

Jim Sillars accused the First Minister of “short-term thinking” when it comes to the Scottish Government’s response to the UK’s vote to leave the European Union.

Sillars criticised the Brexit strategy adopted by Sturgeon days before she publishes a keynote paper outlining the Scottish Government’s thinking on EU withdrawal.

The document, “Scotland’s Place in Europe: People, Jobs and Investment”, will warn of the economic perils of a hard Brexit.

Published tomorrow, it will underpin the Scottish Government’s approach to Brexit as negotiations intensify over the next few months, with the spring 2019 deadline for EU withdrawal edging closer.

Tony Blair calls for campaign against ‘Brexit at any cost’ : i NEWS.

Tony Blair begging the UK to rise up against Brexit, as he say people who voted were not aware of the facts and are therefore entitled to change their minds.

So by the line of thought does this apply to General elections, for here we only have the promises made in each parties manifestos and do they deliver.

So if they do not can we then vote again and so may be reverse the election result. Would there not be anarchy.

What is he advocating, is taking to the street as they did on his decision to commence war with Iraq and what did he do, he ignored it and look what occurred.

It would appear the public, according to Blair, only know what they are doing when they agree with Blair other wise it is Fake News or alternative facts.

Where have we come across this before, well would you believe the US Presidential election and America got President Donald Trump. We got rid of Blair lets not let him back in, treat him with the contempt he deserves.

‘Hard Brexit’ could see disabled people lose right to independent living, say peers | DisabledGo News and Blog

The process of exiting the European Union (EU) could worsen the social care crisis if the UK government does not protect access to personal assistants (PAs) from EU countries, disabled peers have warned. They told a work and pensions minister that uncertainty over the “Brexit” negotiations with fellow EU members was leading to “terrible uncertainty” among the thousands of disabled people whose PAs are citizens of other EU countries. But peers heard that there was not a single mention of disabled people or disability in the government’s white paper on Brexit. The disabled crossbench peer Baroness Campbell told the Lords debate on the impact of Brexit on disabled people – secured by the Liberal Democrat peer Baroness Scott – that she had employed PAs from at least 10 EU countries in the last 25 years. Baroness Campbell told fellow peers that other disabled people who employed PAs had told her that the pool of potential employees was “drying up”, while demand continued to rise, which

Europe’s Leaders to Force Britain into Hard Brexit

Stop Making Sense

Toby Helm reports for The Observer:

Image result for hard brexitEuropean leaders have come to a 27-nation consensus that a “hard Brexit” is likely to be the only way to see off future populist insurgencies, which could lead to the break-up of the European Union.

The hardening line in EU capitals comes as Nigel Farage warns European leaders that Marine Le Pen, leader of the Front National, could deliver a political sensation bigger than Brexit and win France’s presidential election next spring – a result that would mean it was “game over” for 60 years of EU integration.

According to senior officials at the highest levels of European governments, allowing Britain favourable terms of exit could represent an existential danger to the EU, since it would encourage similar demands from other countries with significant Eurosceptic movements.
