Now it seems the House of Representatives is finally catching up with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announcing a formal impeachment inquiry of Trump on Tuesday. The action comes after a whistleblower suggested that Trump tried to influence Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to launch an investigation on Joe Biden, who could possibly become Trump’s opponent in the 2020 U.S. presidential race.
As Auntie Maxine explained in a statement: “This action within itself — where the president is seeking the cooperation and assistance of a foreign government in uncovering dirt on his opponent — is unlawful, unconstitutional, and unpatriotic. I am elated that the Congress of the United States will move forward in an expedited manner to investigate and impeach this president.”
The impeachment inquiry against Trump comes after years of shady business, withholding of information and alleged collusion with Russia to interfere in the 2016 presidential election. Waters explained in her statement, “Special Counsel Robert Mueller identified at least 10 instances of obstruction of justice by the president of the United States during the 2016 presidential campaign and through the course of the Russia investigation, and he furthered the scope of what we know about collusion and coordination between the Trump campaign, Trump’s allies, and the Kremlin in their efforts to undermine our election systems on Trump’s behalf.”
Because Donald Trump remains completely uninterested in any aspect of his tantrum-fueled government shutdown that does not revolve around praise of or insults to himself, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s decision to postpone his planned State of the Union address has stuck in his mind as no other aspect of the shutdown has. He barely mentions the 800,000 unpaid federal workers. He has rarely so much as touched glancingly on the damage wrought by closed government offices, or the steep daily drain on the economy that even his own administration admits continues to mount.
But the self-obsessed narcissist lost an evening of applause and television time, and he remains irate about that. After an initial attempt at retaliating by cancelling a Pelosi-led trip to visit troops in Afghanistan (his administration going so far as to expose not just the initial plans, but subsequent plans to attempt the trip on commercial airlines—yet another incident of Trump’s team intentionally endangering the security of others in efforts to soothe the burger-chomping incompetent’s ego), he’s now musing about well what if he just shows up anyway, so there.
Hours after President Donald Trump abruptly canceled House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s flight on a military aircraft to visit troops in Afghanistan with a congressional delegation, Melania Trumpjetted down to Mar-a-Lago in Florida for vacation — on an Air Force plane.
The first lady boarded the military jet on Thursday at Andrews Air Force Base, NBC and other media outlets reported. Quartz estimated the cost of the vacation flight at $35,000.
On Thursday, Trump wrote to Pelosi that he was canceling her foreign flight “due to the shutdown.”
He added: “In light of 800,000 great American workers not receiving any pay, I am sure you would agree that postponing this public relations event is totally appropriate.”
Donald Trump has dramatically escalated his feud with House speaker Nancy Pelosi amid the US government shutdown by canceling her previously undisclosed trip abroad and denying her the use of a military aircraft to visit American troops in Afghanistan.
Hours after Pelosi said Trump had been “silent” in response to her request, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders posted a letter from Trump to the House speaker postponing her travel.
“Due to the shutdown, I am sorry to inform you that your trip to Brussels, Egypt and Afghanistan has been postponed,” the president wrote. “In light of the 800,000 great American workers not receiving pay, I am sure you would agree that postponing this public relations event is totally appropriate.”
He added: “It would be better if you were in Washington negotiating with me and joining the Strong Border Security movement. If you would like to make your journey flying commercial, that would certainly be your prerogative.”
