Here’s how we can make our MPs more accountable | Letters | The Guardian

Letter: Dr Andrew Bates suggests having professional appraisals and fact-checking exercises to keep our elected representatives doing what they should

Very good suggestions, but I feel there is one drawback at least.

Would anyone wish to stand to be a Member of Parliament on this basis. Not saying that MPs lie, but do they always tell the real truth.

Also with many of the facts that MPs and more so Ministers are given by the respective workers and Civil Servants who would check the information they are giving, could they not mislead MPs and Ministers if they so wished to or am I being to cynical.

Brexit: Petition to remain in the EU hits one million signatures in just one day | Euronews

The response of Chris Sterry to this Euronews article

So, a Petition has received more than 1 Million signatures, but the 2016 Referendum received more than 17 Million votes. The 17 million were accused of not knowing what they were doing because the information that was produced in support of leaving, was, we are told not completely correct. But neither was the information supporting remain.

It is assumed by persons wishing to remain that if we stay in the EU, that the EU will continue as it is, but what about the threat to proceed to further political union, what will this entail, have we been informed. Will we be in control of our military forces, will we still be able to decide on our own legislation, will taxes and other forms of obtaining finance still be within our control. Will we still have an independent Government, or will it be so depleted to be as Local Government is today.

These are major issues, which currently we have not received any information on, so voting to stay is as much in the dark as voting to leave. I voted in the 1975 referendum and voted to stay within the EEC, now transformed to the EU. Did I vote for the EU, no I did not and nobody did. We could have voted on these issues, but, one, Tony Blair and other Prime Ministers did not allow a public vote. We are now told because of the lies and misinformation we should have a peoples vote, as though the vote in 2016 was not a peoples vote, so what did vote in 2016, were they not people?

We are told there are now people who were too young to vote in 2016, so they should now be allowed to express their vote but was this not the case in 1975. In 1975 there were also lies and untruths, for were we told of the wish or desire to proceed with Political Union, which we are now advised was known in 1975. I voted to stay in the EEC, but not the EU, I and many others have been denied that right since 1975.

All that is being said about the wrongs in 2016 could also be said of the 1975. But there is a major difference, in 1975 the vote was to stay, was this what the Establishment wished for, but in 2016 we voted to leave and that appears to be not what the Establishment wished for. Sour grapes by the losers in 2016, but not the losers in 1975. As 1975 was allowed to stand, so should 2016, whether it be right or wrong, just as in 1975. To say otherwise means that the democratic principles are not being adhered to and that means why should anyone really vote again, as it appears no matter what the result the Establishment will do as they please, is that not the ideals of a dictatorship?

IS bride Shamima Begum full transcript: ‘It was nice at first, like in the videos’ | UK News | Sky News

Sky News has spoken to IS bride Shamima Begum in an exclusive interview just hours after she gave birth to a baby boy in a Syrian refugee camp.

The 19-year-old was one of three schoolgirls from Bethnal Green in east London who travelled to Syria to join the Islamic State in 2015.

Sky correspondent John Sparks interviewed the teenager at the refugee camp.

Here is the full exchange:

Tell me a bit about the child.

It’s a boy. I named him after my old son [who died] – that’s what my husband wanted.

What are conditions like in the camp?

DWP Employee Knowingly Lied To MP Says Claimant

Lies and then more lies, that is par for the course for the DWP and MPS just lap it all up.

But then what is it about MPs and lying.

Do MPs understand about lying, what evidence is there for yes or no. The Expenses scandal, #Me Too, need I say more!

Same Difference

Spotted here.

I now have enough evidence to show that a DWP employee knowingly lied to my MP with the intent to deceive. The DWP is ignoring my formal complaint request. My MP really wants to believe the DWP so is ignoring my correspondence. Does anyone know what the law is for a public sector working knowingly deceiving an elected official?

People in the comments thread of that Facebook post are asking for the MP to be named and shamed. However, that is not what concerns Same Difference. The questions we feel we must ask are: How many more DWP employees are doing this? Will anyone ever do anything to stop it happening, if there are more?

These questions may be stupid ones, and we fear we can guess the answers to both.

However, that’s the whole problem, isn’t it, readers?

Sanctioned for not being able to sign on on bank holiday Monday. Tears, frustration and rain.

The poor side of life

Today’s demo started rather hurriedly and to be honest I didn’t know if I was coming or going. This feeling was amplified because it was cold, rainy and my daughter was a bit fed up. understandable of course. But she soon settled down into our usual routine and all was well.

We are seeing a lot of new faces due to Stalybridge Jobcentre shutting. They don’t know us and what we are doing, and we don’t know them or their situations either. So we have to start from scratch, which at times isn’t easy.  But it’s a whole lot harder for them.

I started a conversation with a man who had been previously attending Stalybridge Jobcentre for his appointments. The first thing that he said to me was that he couldn’t believe how rude the front desk staff are at  Ashton Jobcentre, and how rude some of the advisors are also…

Can Trump tell the difference between truth and lies?

I believe Trump can tell the difference between truth and lies.

Lies is what he quotes as being the truth

Truth is what he states is Fake News

—————————————————————————————–On January 21, Trump demanded that White House press secretary Sean Spicer inform the public they could not believe their lying eyes about the size of the crowd at his inauguration because photographers were intentionally deceptive, the reporting was deliberately false, magnetometers kept people out of the back areas (they weren’t used there), white grass-protectors that gave false impressions of the size of the crowd had never been used before (they have been), and on and on. That same day, Trump brought an applause team with him to the CIA’s Memorial Wall, which honors 117 CIA officers who died in the line of duty, where they clapped and whooped in a desecration of that sacred place as Trump spun more fantasies: that he had been on the cover of Time magazine more than anyone else (not even close: He’s been on the cover 11 times; Richard Nixon was on 55 times; Barack Obama was on it 12 times in 2008 alone); that God looked down and said He wasn’t going to let it rain when Trump gave his inaugural speech (it did); and, again, about the size of the inaugural crowd. On Meet the Press the next day, White House Advisor Kellyanne Conway explained that, in analyzing the size of the inaugural crowd, the Trump team had “alternative facts”—just a small step away from an alternative reality.

“Fake news is bad, but the ministry of truth is even worse”: Europe Considers Regulation for the Post-Truth Era – Bryony Hurst

We hear so much about Fake News these days, but is it new. There as always been propaganda, which is a form of Fake News. Previously, this originated from persons in power to misled others of their intentions or to create a false security for the countries populace in times of unrest.

However, with the advancement of technology and the influx of Social Media, it appears anyone could create Fake News and thereby mislead others for whatever reason the perpetrator of the Fake News as.

Fake News is lies and where possible this should be controlled and where ever possible eliminated.

At elections do not all manifestos contain some proportion of Fake News, or Fake intentions.

I am not intending to legitimise the issuing, but do not all Governments have some areas relating to this and the population at large will not be aware until the stored away files are eventually released some 30-50 years later.

However, today the extent of fake news is exceedingly alarming and some measures do need to be enacted to minimise the issue of such false information.

Trump orders ISIS plan, talks with Putin and gives Bannon national security role – The Washington Post

During Trumps election campaign he said he had a plan on how to defeat ISIS, would appear that his plan was to order his to be National Security adviser to formulate the plan. So much for Trumps plan and or all his other utterances also dependent on his other advisers, so much for the knowledge and truth from Trump, continued untruths. Does he really know the difference between the truth and lies.
