Asia Bibi – The Intolerance of the Extreme Muslims.

intolerance in any religion should not be tolerated and there needs to be universal freedom of speech.

Pakistan needs to be brought into the 21st century, but also do many other countries.

Opher's World

The whole business with Asia Bibi has displayed the rank intolerance of the Extreme Muslims in Pakistan.

For a supposedly civilised country this has been an appalling display of intolerance and injustice.

What started as a minor dispute was escalated into a death sentence. Asia is a Christian and was working with in the fields Muslim women from her village. These women refused to drink from a water bucket that Asia had touched because they claimed it was now unclean. They demanded she convert to Islam and she refused. In the heated argument that followed they claimed she insulted the prophet Muhammad.

Asia was arrested under blasphemy laws and absurdly sentenced to death.

This is not the only travesty of justice. In 2009, politician Salman Taseer was shot dead by his own bodyguard, Mumtaz Qadri, after he spoke out in support of Ms Bibi and openly condemned Pakistan’s blasphemy laws. The…

Should Creationism be taught in schools?

I believe we all should live in harmony with each and in doing so we should all respect the views of each other. Whether there is a God or not or which religion we follow is up to each individual and no other persons or organisation should decide otherwise.

Religions are beliefs and not a matter of fact and should never be held to be based on facts. Many of the religious scriptures were written many years after the events with no proof they occurred except for hearsay.

If religion make you feel good or not is up to the individual and not any other.

Respect each other and their beliefs, but do not dictate these to others, leave this to individual choice.

By all mean advise children the different religions but no one should say one is better or not than the other. Children should be allowed to make up their own minds, but they should be taught respect, understanding, compassion and that we all have a right to live our own lives, provided we all abide by the laws of the land.

Opher's World

There are many people who believe that the world is 6000 years old. Should we allow them to teach this to our children as a fact?

There are many people who believe that evolution is nonsense. Should we allow them to tell our children that it is nonsense?

There are many people who think god put fossils in the rocks. Should we allow them to tell our children that this is what happened?

There are many people who believe there is a god. Should they be allowed to tell our children that god is a fact?

There are many people who believe that their religion is right and all the others are wrong. Should they be allowed to tell our children that their religion is the only right one?

There are many people who believe that the Old Testament, or New Testament, or the Koran, or the Upanishads, or the…

A Second Referendum – the final decision.

You have a good point, but which of those will the EU allow and none of them mention the right of the UK to decide who comes and who stays within the UK.

I am not adverse to immigration provided the immigrants come to work and are prepared to contribute to the UK and abide by our rules of law and Society.

If some do not work and/or commit crimes then they should be deported irrespective of their family life here.

Opher's World

Now we know more about what is involved with Brexit I think it is only right that we have a democratic say. As there are a number of options I would suggest that instead of a binary decision we allow the people to decide what flavour we prefer.

I suggest a referendum based on the following:

a. A complete break from the EU.

b. We break with the political union but stay within the Single Market and Customs Union.

c. We break with the political union but stay within the Single Market.

d. We break with the political union but stay within the Customs Union.

e. We remain within the EU.

I think that might give us a better idea of the thinking of the British people. What do you think?

Male Circumscision – is it Child Abuse?

I Agree and this should be outlawed in any civilisation.

Opher's World

We have no problem whatsoever in declaring that female circumcision is child abuse. If a parent allows their female child to be mutilated then most civilised people would shout loudly that it is wrong.

It does not matter if the parents erroneously believe that it is a religious practice.

Religious practices are not above the law.

Some religious practice declares that it is not only alright, but an absolute mandate from god, to take the life of a nonbeliever. It is never right.

Some religious belief declares that it is right for a wife to throw herself on the funeral pyre of her husband.

Female circumcision is an abuse. It is wrong. It is illegal. It never should happen.

Neither should male circumcision be allowed. It is nowhere near as bad as female mutilation but it is the same principle. A child should not be subjected to such a mutilation…

Borneo – the ongoing massacre of Orang-utans. : Opher’s World

Orang-utans are kind gentle creatures. They are harmless. The last place they have now is Borneo. Yet since 1990 100,000 of these poor gentle creatures have been mindlessly killed – over 50% of them are gone.

Why I do not like Donald Trump in a nutshell!

Quite agree

Opher's World

In my view Donald Trump is a liar and a populist who has used the poor and desperate to gain power and promote his own interests. He sides with the fascist groups and promotes fear of terrorism and hatred of Muslims in order to gain support. He thrives on racism and xenophobia.

What I dislike about Donald Trump in a nutshell:

a. Climate denial and closing down all climate monitoring
b. Doing away with environmental protection
c. Doing away with health and safety regs
d. Cutting corporation tax
e. Cutting tax for the rich
f. Taking away funding for contraception
g. Taking away funding for abortion centres
h. Having a racist immigration policy with blanket restrictions
I. Building a ludicrous wall
j. Producing America first isolationist policies
k. Shutting down Science centres
l. Promoting evangelicals
m. Supporting white supremacist groups
n. Retweeting extreme right-wing racist propaganda
o. Goading North Korea

Cooperation not Competition!! Nationalisation not Profit for the Boys!!

Whatever we do in the UK is a fudge.

Take privatisation, supposedly to introduce competition but how can there be competition when there is only one operator.

Then re-nationalisation supposedly for profits to be reinvested, but are they reinvested or are they creamed off by the Government of the day.

Pre-privatisation many of the nationalised industries were deprived of much need investment and investment was used on a political basis.

Theoretically nationalisation should be good for the majority, but if it is not applied effectively on a practical basis it will not be good for the majority.

Opher's World

It is obvious isn’t it?  We don’t need competition we need cooperation.

People work better in teams with a common aim. We don’t need them arbitrarily divided into profit-making groups. We want national services that are fairly priced and not geared to generate profit for rich people but to provide services for us.

All this drive to privatisation and competition is doing is putting money in the pockets of the rich.

We privatise universities and schools and suddenly the Vice Chancellors and SuperHeads are on vast salaries.

We privatise healthcare and the costs go through the roof as profits are creamed off.

We privatise the railways and fares go through the roof as profits are creamed off.

We privatise energy and the coasts soar.

We privatise the Post Office and the cost of a stamp goes through the ceiling.

We privatise water and our bills shoot up.

When will we learn?…

Protest Donald Trump’s Visit! We’ve got enough Racists Thanks!!

Opher's World

Incredible. In just 24 hours more than 100,000 people have signed the petition calling on the Prime Minister to cancel Donald Trump’s visit to the UK

But to make it impossible for Theresa May to ignore our voices, we need even more people to join us. If we can double the size of the petition and get 100,000 more people to add their names today, we can show her the British public won’t tolerate racism and hatred. Today we can prove that Trump, and all that he stands for, is not welcome in Britain.

Will you help get this petition to 200,000 signatures by the end of the day by sharing it with your friends and family? Just click on the buttons below to share on Facebook or WhatsApp, or there’s an email below you can forward to your friends.

If everyone reading this email right now shares the petition…

The Future will have no Prisons

Now these are area for consideration and there may be advantages but there will also be many disadvantages.

One of the main advantages will be that there is an ordered society, but the disadvantage is who creates the order and who will monitor it.

Society values change from time to time and when this occurs would there have to be widespread rewiring or reprogramming. and who will decide when, where and how.

Is this not the Big Brother of Orwell’s 1984.

Will this only be occurring within the UK or all over the World and if the latter, what about the different perceptions of Society in each individual country. Then if this is so what would occur when people visit from other countries where the aspects of Society differ from the country they are coming to.

On the face of it rewiring and reprogramming is the ideal, but when taking into account the practicalities, then may be not.
It is also open to abuse from anyone within the ruling classes.

In effect is there not an option at the moment with the rewiring and reprogramming substituted by some forms of medication.

Lastly, would any of us wish to be, within an environment, where everyone would be the same as the next person, surely our individual differences bring enlightenment to all our lives.

Opher's World

All behaviour is either learnt or innate.

There is no such thing as evil. That religious concept went out with the death of the Devil (another human invention).

That does not mean that people do not do ‘evil’ things. They do. We all have the innate behavioural pathways to do cruel, hateful, callous and nasty things.

But most of us don’t. Should the ones who do be punished?

Either their behaviour is the result of being damaged by their horrible experiences, of being taught badly, or of an innate character flaw. Whatever the cause it is down to bad wiring in the brain and bad brain chemistry.

What has been learnt can be unlearnt, wiring can be rewired, chemistry imbalances can be corrected.

In future when we have understood the functioning and biochemistry of the brain a lot better, rather than punish someone for bad behaviour all that will be…

Is religion defunct in this day and age?

My own views on religions are contained in my post from 2012, Religions, what are they for? and in many ways my thoughts have not changed.

So I do not wish to remove any religions from today’s world, but they all do need to reflect how their supposed original teachings or basic concepts relate to the world as it is now. None should debase the others and their followers need to act accordingly as tolerance and understanding of others points of view should be, always, the way forward.

PEACE

Opher's World

The three Abrahamic religions started up way back in the dawn of time – in a time of medieval ignorance.

Judaism has its roots 3000 years ago.

Christianity 2000 years ago.

Islam 1500 years ago.

They originated in nomadic tribes of Arabs in a small area of the Middle East renowned for its many sects and religious fanatics.

They all claim that ‘God’ spoke to their originator when they were alone in a cave, up a mountain or in the wilderness – with no witnesses.

None of the originators wrote anything down.

The writings in the holy books were either accumulated from the prevailing genesis stories or myths or written down generations later from accounts passed down by word of mouth. Yet the adherents claim they are the exact word of God (despite the inconsistencies, obvious social context pertaining to that Arab culture, ambiguities and contradictions).

These holy words have…
