Russia-Ukraine war: Fate of Europe and global security being decided in Ukraine, Zelenskiy says– live | Ukraine | The Guardian

Russian foreign minister says western weapons are a ‘legitimate target’; about 15,000 Russian troops have been killed since start of invasion, UK defence secretary says

Russia needs to understand war, for they do not, they assume all they do is allowed, but what others do is not.

They believe only them are allowed to invade countries whenever they wish and cause destruction, but the countries they invade should not retaliate in similar measures .

They can obtain armaments from whom is prepared to provide armaments to them, but the country they invaded should not and countries should not provide armaments to the invaded country.

Russia also believes that everything and everybody in the invaded country can be destroyed and people killed and injured whereas civilians and their property should be safeguarded as much as possible.

But Russia is way misguided for they believe everyone is afraid of them, but by invading Ukraine they have shown their armed forces are not as strong or as fearful as they believed, but they are extremely undisciplined, as they feel they are allowed to rape, torture and then kill as many women  as they wish to.

Putin continues to threaten that he will use his nuclear weapons, but does he realise that if he does others will retaliate with their own nuclear weapons thereby causing wide spread nuclear contamination all over.

Is Putin so stupid, perhaps he is. and why are many in Russia so gullible, as families in Ukraine with relatives in Russia are finding the that their Russian relatives are believing Putin rather than their Ukrainian relatives. Perhaps Putin’s propaganda is so much more effective than its armed forces.

Many Ukrainian civilians, including children have been forcibly taken from Ukraine and took to Russia in the guise that they are being liberated, will they ever be found again.

Every country needs to work as one and supply Ukraine will all they wish for and stop purchasing any goods from Russia, for any payment, especially in Roubles is effectively working against Ukrainians. Buy paying Russia just one Rouble is one Rouble too many and any country doing so, is as guilty as Russia.

Putin and the Russian armed forces are already committing many War Crimes, with many more being committed every day. Both Putin and those Russian armed forces need to be held accountable and brought before the Court Of Human Rights in Strasbourg.

Oklahoma votes for total abortion ban and penalties for doctors | The BMJ

The Oklahoma state legislature has passed a bill banning abortion “except to save the life of a pregnant woman in a medical emergency” and penalising healthcare personnel who perform or attempt to perform an abortion with fines and jail time.

1Republican state governor Kevin Stitt has promised to sign every bill limiting abortion.2 The bill will go into effect this summer, 90 days after the end of the current legislative session……..

So, the ‘land of the free’, is not as free as it was, especially for women who are pregnant.

It takes, at least 2 to become pregnant but nothing is being done to men, but is to the choice of women.

So, an act of minutes can lead to a lifetime for women. It was a long time fight to gain abortion through Roe-v-Wade, where the Supreme  Court said it was  ‘the Constitution of the United States protects a pregnant woman’s liberty to choose to have an abortion without excessive government restriction’. But now in Oklahoma and some other States, it appears that they are against the Constitution on the whim of political intrusion and maybe some religious involvement.

The feelings of women are not being considered, surely they have rights of their own body. In some States not even rape is a consideration, perhaps women should abandon these States or even America itself and go to reside in other countries which respect the rights of women better.

Ukraine: what might happen if the war spreads to a Nato country

Article 5 of the Nato treaty calls for collective defence if a member nation is attacked.

These are very worrying times, not only for Ukraine and the surrounding former Soviet Territories, but in effect the whole World and especially the rest of Europe.

For years Putin has been allowed to get away with murder of innocent individuals and destruction of civilian infrastructure. But as this was,  mainly, outside of Europe and America it was generally ignored by the Western World, except for some general comments and actions which were never to be taken.

Now we have seen the cost of that in Ukraine, but before it was in Crimea and some areas of assumed Russian supporting areas of Ukraine. Putin took this as a weakness of the West and NATO and lead him to believe he could and can get away with anything he wishes to do, which he has been allowed to do for many years.

Now it appears that NATO is ready to act should he encroach on any NATO countries, but that is still to be seen if they will. For, if they don’t what will be the use of NATO.

Putin is also threatening the use of nuclear weapons and some chemical and other weapons and if he does, what will NATOs response be, even if they are only used within the borders of Ukraine.

NATO should leave him in no doubt that any escalating of the Ukraine war will cause NATO into action against Putin. Unfortunately, any actions against Putin, will also mean that the actions will be felt by the Russian population, who are also innocents in all this.

It will not end this conflict, but Putin’s actions are to all purposes ‘War Crimes’ and these need to be fully investigated and brought before the International Court of Justice in The Hauge.

There are also reports that Ukrainian women are also being violated, by acts of rape from the Russian forces.

The Human Rights of Ukrainians are being violated, not only by Putin, but also some of the Russian invaders.

Putin’s actions are not the actions of a sane person, but, if he is mentally unstable that is no excuse and he needs to be brought to justice as should others who have carried out his orders.

Mother-of-one, 20, attacked by crowd in Delhi, India after being gang raped and tortured [Video] | Daily Mail Online

WARNING DISTRESSING CONTENT: Police arrested 11 people after a 20-year-old mother-of-one was gang raped and dragged through a jeering crowd that attacked her on Wednesday in Delhi, India.

In India misogamy appears to part of their culture which is not good news for women in India. While the Indian authorities say they are doing what they can to uphold the rights of women it does not appear to be so in many parts of the Indian population and this is in many ways reflected in the Indian Law and order system to some extent.

Until the rights of women are really defended and respected in India then women will continue to be abused.

Only India can do this, but they are not alone for many parts of the World do not respect women as they should, as this can be seen, especially in Afghanistan by the ruling Taliban and some other Arabic countries including Saudi Arabia.

However, in the West all is not as it should be in some instances as can be seen with the Met police in London

Child refugees forced to share rooms with adults after being wrongly deemed over 18 | The Independent

Exclusive: Alarm over quality of Home Office age assessments as hundreds placed in adult hotels and only moved to children’s services when charities intervene

As many refugees or asylum seekers have little or no Identity documents, as they may have lost them on route, had them stolen, were unable to bring them for some reason or they deliberately discarded then so that their identity, age and country of origin are unknown. It is, therefore very difficult for the authorities in the preferred country in which the persons wish to reside to correctly identify the correct information of the persons.

Some could be assumed younger that they say, older than say or actually believed, so the 2 former could cause many problems, children being classified as adults causing a problem for the children or adults classified as children causing problems for any children with whom they are placed. Let alone any problems they may come across on their treks over many lands. These are the risks that refugees and asylum seekers put themselves in, but there would more likely be risks if they stayed were they were.

So great care has to be taken by all concerned.

Many are undertaking these journey due to circumstances outside their control, so being incorrectly age assessed increases their problems, as does the length of the process and in many instances the quality of the accommodation they are placed in, especially having to share rooms and even more so beds.

The process needs to be conducted quicker, and there certainly needs to be more monitoring while the process is being conducted.

In reality it would be more beneficial if the need to seek asylum or be refugees were not necessary in the first place, but the reasons they do are also numerous, including famine, climate change, influence of wars and other conflicts, etc.

So great care needs to be undertaking by all concerned, so that successful outcomes are realised.

Harvey Weinstein’s ‘false memory’ defense is not backed by science : The Conversation

As women began to come forward with experiences of rape and abuse, backlash came forward too. The notion of ‘false memory’ developed to explain away assault. Here’s why that notion itself is untrue.

Spain’s rape laws in the spotlight after men cleared of gang-raping teenager | Euronews

Women’s rights campaigners in Spain called for a change in the law on Friday after a court in Barcelona cleared five men of raping a 14-year-old girl, ruling that they did not use violence.

The men, who denied the charges, took turns to have sex with the teenager after a party in Manresa, a town to the north of Barcelona, in October 2016, the court heard.

On Thursday they were sentenced to between 10 and 12 years in jail for sexual abuse, avoiding more serious charges of rape or sexual assault because the court said the girl was drunk and unconscious, did not fight back and the men were not violent.

Ada Colau, the mayor of Barcelona, took to social media to express her anger at the verdict, saying it was “outrageous” and the result of a patriarchal judicial system.

“I’m not a judge and I don’t know how many years in prison they deserve, but what I do know is that this is not abuse, it is rape!” she wrote on Twitter.

10 Years Later, She Confronted The Cop Who Said Her Rape Was ‘Consensual’ | HuffPost UK

University of Arizona Lieutenant David Caballero will never forget the day he opened his computer to find an email from former student Jillian Corsie sitting in his inbox.

“It was October 28, 2015,” Caballero told HuffPost last week. “I’ll never forget that date.”

The veteran cop had just sat down at his desk and begun deleting the junk folder in his inbox when he came across something that caught his eye. It was an email from a woman he had crossed paths with more than a decade ago. Although he didn’t remember her, she remembered him.

“I’ve carried your card around in my wallet since the night we met,” Corsie wrote. “Ten years ago this month you interviewed me about a rape I experienced on campus. After an embarrassing and horrible interview for me, the [University of Arizona Police Department] deemed my experience ‘consensual.’”

Corsie told HuffPost that she was raped in 2005 by a male classmate in her dorm room during the first month of college. When she turned to her friends for help, most of them were wildly unsupportive. Her boyfriend didn’t believe her and thought she had simply cheated on him. Corsie later went to local police for help, but they told her “not to mix alcohol and beauty,” she said. The two patrol supervisors on duty that day, Caballero and another officer, concluded in their report that “a sexual assault did not occur.”

Caballero said he was stunned by Corsie’s email and the response he had given her that day 10 years ago. He immediately picked up the phone and called her.

That interaction sparked Corsie and co-director Amy Rosner to create their short film, aptly titled “Second Assault,” which HuffPost is exclusively premiering below. “Second Assault” is a documentary-style film that follows Corsie as she confronts the people who failed her after she reported her rape in 2005.

“The film is about my journey to confront a system that failed me, and also to confront the culture that we live in — and how that supports this idea of a second assault, which isn’t necessarily just what happens when you report, but also what happens when your friends and boyfriends and people around you don’t believe you,” Corsie told HuffPost in 2017 when she and Rosner were still crowdfunding.

David Caballero and Jillian Corsie meet in person for the first time.

In the film, Corsie confronts Caballero face-to-face and tells him about their interaction 10 years prior. Caballero, for his part, is open and honest about his missteps and points to a lack of trauma-informed training as a reason for his insensitive response.

“Having that conversation with him just allowed me to let go of all of the anger that I had been holding against him for more decades,” Corsie told HuffPost last week. “To have him ― without question, without meeting me, without knowing my motive ― show up and put himself on camera is a huge risk on his part. And I’m really grateful for what he did and what he continues to do.”

Caballero was so taken by Corsie’s letter that he shared her email with his entire team, telling HuffPost he wanted to make sure his officers “understood that their words matter.”

“Whatever I did, whatever I said back then needed to be corrected. It needed to be done in a way where I needed to take full responsibility for the response that we gave her back then,” Caballero said, adding that, at the time, they believed they were responding correctly with the training they had been given.

“Second Assault,” which premiered at multiple festivals last year, has won several awards, including Best Director at the Global Impact Film Festival and Audience Choice Award at the Julien Dubuque International Film Festival.

Rosner and Corsie hope the film starts a much-needed conversation about how the criminal justice system, and society as a whole, responds to sexual assault survivors.

“This conversation alone has had a ripple effect in both Jillian and David’s lives, and I think, if possible, we need to have these conversations more openly,” Rosner said.

These days, when Caballero sits down at his desk, he’s greeted by Corsie’s letter, which is framed and hung up on on his wall.

“Every day,” he said, “I look at Jillian’s letter and it reminds me words matter.”

Watch the exclusive premiere of “Second Assault” below.

Trump’s fans think he’s a macho he-man — he’s really a moral weakling who preys on women and kids |

Donald Trump’s fans are obsessed with the idea that their hero is the pinnacle of manliness, here to restore the supposed greatness of American masculinity after its alleged assault at the hands of feminism and “political correctness.” His fans paint semi-erotic art portraying Trump as handsome and virile, either with a couple of dozen pounds shaved off his waistline or as an over-muscular he-man. They are so sure that Trump radiates a vibrant masculinity that Trump fanboy and convicted criminal Dinesh D’Souza recently posted a picture of Trump sitting next to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau with the caption, “Masculinity in the twenty first century: which one is YOU?” The implicit assumption was that the orange-tinted primate, hunched over in a poorly-fitted suit was obviously more of a studly macho man than the suave young Canadian.

To outsiders, the idea that Trump is a model of desirable masculinity is just plain bizarre, as he lacks not just the positive markers of traditional manhood — stoicism, strength and virility — but any positive human qualities at all. But this past month has offered a strong reminder of what, exactly, Trump fans believe makes Trump such a harbinger of restored masculine greatness: His viciousness and cruelty.

Forget the handsome knight in shining armor protecting the weak of chivalric myth. Trump’s “manhood” is strictly about punching down and targeting those who are most vulnerable, with a particular sadism reserved for women and children.

Two of the biggest stories competing for headline space right now are a new allegation from journalist E. Jean Carroll that Trump raped her in the 1990s and reports from border towns in Texas that refugee children separated from their families have been crammed into cages in horrific conditions. But really, both stories are of a piece, illustrating Trump’s baseline impulses, which thrill his fans. He tries to make himself feel tough and powerful by inflicting pain on those who are smaller and unable to protect themselves.

Picking on someone your own size is, in Trump’s terms, for losers. “Winners,” in TrumpWorld, are the men who torture children and overpower women.

Trump’s already unconvincing denials in the face of Carroll’s rape allegation got worse on Monday evening, when he told a reporter for the Hill, “She’s not my type,” a response that suggests he would have no problem raping someone he found attractive.

This response is one of Trump’s go-to responses to the many, many accusations of sexual harassment and sexual violence that have been made against him. He once told a rally crowd, in response to reporter Natasha Stoynoff’s allegations that he assaulted her, “Look at her … I don’t think so.”

This is nonsense, of course. E. Jean Carroll was a beauty queen and looked, at the time Trump allegedly assaulted her, very much like Trump’s first two wives. He resorts to this same line for exactly the same reason men commit rape in the first place: To dominate and humiliate women.

Trump’s “denial,” then, only serves to confirm that he has the capacity for cruelty and misogyny that fuels the crime of rape. It is yet another reminder that the issue isn’t so much that his followers don’t believe the accusations against him — after all, he’s on tape bragging about how he enjoys sexual assault — as that they thrill to his unconcealed malice. They mistake his willingness to hurt vulnerable as strength and feel that by siding with a sadist, they will somehow be more powerful and manly for it.

Grown women have some power to fight back, however, as evidenced by Carroll’s own telling of her escape mid-rape. Children, on the other hand, make even better targets for Trump and his supporters, as they can do almost nothing to resist the abuses of those who need to overpower the vulnerable to feel good about themselves.

This, I think, goes a long way to explaining the horrific situation on the border, where reports are streaming out of migrant children being forced to sleep on cold concrete and not allowed to shower or brush their teeth. Lawyers and reporters say that children are being left in soiled clothes and babies are handed off to older children to be cared for. CNN, for instance, spoke to a 14-year-old who was crammed in a cell with a 4-year-old stranger and an 11-year-old boy, caring for a toddler who was sick and covered in filth.

The administration is attempting to play off this horror show as the result of overcrowding due to a rapid influx of migrants. But all the evidence suggests instead that the government is deliberately abusing small children to satisfy the sadism of Trump and his supporters. As CNN has reported, “officials at the border seem to be making no effort to release children to caregivers — many have parents in the US — rather than holding them for weeks in overcrowded cells at the border.”

Within minutes, reporters were themselves able to locate the desperate parents of a second-grader who was languishing in a cell, abandoned by officials who were unwilling to pick up the phone and call a number the little girl was carrying with her.

The sense that this is being done deliberately was only compounded when it was reported that concerned citizens in the El Paso area keep showing at a Border Patrol holding facility with diapers, toothbrushes and other items to help the children and are being turned away. The Trump administration could help these children. It is deliberately choosing to neglect and abuse them.

There are political reasons for this, as Trump and his allies at Fox News are clearly hoping to exploit concerns about the children’s welfare, while arguing that the solution is to repeal people’s legal right to apply for political asylum. In that sense, this is straightforward hostage-taking by the Trump administration. Except that as some people who have been held hostage by Somali pirates or the Taliban are pointing out, at least they got toothbrushes and soap.

But I’d argue this is about more than Trump’s use of brinksmanship and hostage-taking as his primary political strategy. It’s also about he and his supporters making themselves feel big and powerful by picking on those who are weak and helpless. The word “bully” feels too small to capture what’s going on, but it does capture the pettiness at the heart of Trumpism. When Trump’s fans speak of making America “great,” this is what they mean: Finding someone smaller and more vulnerable and inflicting abuse on them, just because you can.

How dare those pesky Catholics attempt to uphold and affirm central tenants of their faith. Islam and his prophet Mohammed is much more flexible, forgiving and accepting of LGBT people.

Apart from the offensive manipulation of this ploy, the strategy begs the ontological question of which motion picture would actually become the top moneymaker should the ploy succeed. It could be argued that it wouldn’t actually be the original version of ‘Avengers: Endgame’, upon whose profits the new release would build, but another motion picture with variant content. I realize that the moguls craving the top spot wouldn’t care about such distinctions, but honest and conscientious record keepers should.

How about we modify tax laws so that we can choose what we want to pay for. I’d like to reduce my taxes 2/3 and help illiterate third world women and children by NOT killing them. Better yet, let’s do what Costa Rica did and disband the military, then we could cut taxes 50% and still provide free health care and college for everyone.

Is Trump in here somewhere? Didn’t latch on to his name when scanning it. But probably – at least subliminally.

Interesting point which is can trumpie delay a recession? It has been tired. Bush 2 was advised that the economy was on the brink of a recession due to the housing derivatives which were looking to explode. An economic professor at NYU had written about this at the time. Bush wanted to delay the inevitable hoping that it would fall after Obama was in office. The events were fast were happening fast and it happened. Good TV doc called Hank, for Hank Paulsen, about when Lehman Bros. went under as a first casualty. In 2009 Obama came in and took a years worth of beatings from the right but the economy started to recover. The economy came back all the way and trump inherited an upward economy unlike Obama and Clinton. Dems always have to save a GOP economy. Bush 1 took over from Reagan who started our debt crisis creating more debt that all previous presidents combined. Bush 1 who called Reagan’s plans during Reagan’s first campaign voodoo economics. He was right, but as the debt worked for Reagan with massive tax cuts stimulating the economy Bush 1 followed suit with more debt and it exploded in his face. Remember it’s the economy stupid? Now we are kind of faced with the same situation with massive trumpian debt created and again let the good times roll. The next president, probably be a Dem, and will face the same challenges like Clinton and Obama.Like the parade horse clean up crew the Dems will need shovel and pail. Don’t ever again believe fiscal responsibility.

Why aren’t these Trump people making a mockery of justice not sitting in jail right now? They and their supporters are beyond contempt….

Well for one just handing out hundreds of thousands to anyone usually doesn’t achieve anything as most people, regardless of color, have very poor financial acumen. You might as well light it on fire. Then there’s the issue of genealogy. Not all black people in the U.S. are descended from slaves and good luck figuring that out. Not impossible but there’d have to be some government office funded and staffed with researchers to document the lineage of every single person applying. Then there’s the issue of successful black people. Would Samuel L. Jackson get anything? Who decides that? Then there’s the issue of Indians. Personally I don’t think you can honestly have a conversation about slave reparations without a similar one about Indians.Oh no doubt since the end of the Civil War black people have been economically excluded but isn’t that due more to racism than being the descendant of a slave? Perhaps this effort would get more traction if the focus was more on racial equality in employment and banking than just lumping it all under the slave reparations umbrella.

I’ll always wonder if Donald actually believes his own delusional blather, or he simply thinks his fans are dumb enough to swallow whatever he spews.

It’s hard to recruit Black police officers when they’d need to work among so many Indiana racists….

And Murdoch’s wife Jerry Hall says he is a feminist. Ha Ha.

Completely baseless accusation intended just to inspire fear and distress in people. This isn’t much different than what the Russian troll factory was accused of.

He’s not going to be impeached. He will lose in 2020 and fade away.

The point is that social media’s animals stars have made more people think of animals as individuals — to start to see them as living souls. So… did these people not have pets growing up?

Not a bad idea but I get the feeling that they’re only suggesting it because they don’t expect it to pass. We’ll see.
