Trump defiant as GOP braces for debate showdown | TheHill

Donald Trump received little cover from his own party for his vulgar remarks about women, leaving him to bear the fallout largely alone ahead of the pivotal Sunday debate.

After audio surfaced Friday of Trump saying being a “star” allowed him to do whatever he wanted to women, the network of support that has defended him through other past controversies appeared to fall apart.

The past 24 hours have been fraught with unendorsements from Republican lawmakers and party leaders, with the threat of more to come if he can’t do damage control in Sunday’s debate against Hillary Clinton, the Democratic presidential nominee.

The threat of a global holy war

Phil Ebersole's Blog

One of the worst thing that could happen is an escalation of the U.S. “war on terror” into a global war between Christendom and Islam.  That is the goal of al Qaeda and the Islamic State (ISIS).

If it happened, the United States and much of Europe would become as beleaguered as Israel is today.  The devastation that has been visited on Gaza, Palestine, Iraq, Libya and Syria would be spread to the whole world.

That is why Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama were careful to distinguish jihadist terrorists from Muslims in general.

Unfortunately, there are Americans, such as Lt. General (ret) William “Jerry” Boykin, who don’t.

President Bush fired him in 2007 from his post as deputy undersecretary of defense for intelligence for saying that the United States is in a holy war of Christian crusaders against Muslim jihadists.  Even though Boykin was a brave and patriotic…

Republican Ted Cruz Wants Increased Police Patrols in Muslim Areas

Beastrabban\'s Weblog

It’s not just Trump who is promoting a very anti-Muslim line in America. It’s also Ted Cruz, another far-Right Republican. Over on The Young Turks they’ve actually been debating who would be worse for America – Trump or Cruz. While Trump’s been talking about banning Muslims from entering America, for example, Cruz has actually been doing it. He’s behind a law to prevent, or at least limit, further Muslim immigration.

After the terrible attacks in Belgium this week, Cruz got up to recommend that there should be increased police patrols in Muslim areas. The Young Turks naturally took a dim view about that. Cenk Uygur, one of the Turks’ anchors, who is himself of Muslim Turkish heritage, said that while they were at it, why not move Muslim communities somewhere else, and create a ghetto. He was, of course, being bitterly ironic, but his attack does voice fears that what…

Our Muslim Friends

Webner House

Kish and I have friends and acquaintances who happen to be Muslims. We’ve shared meals with them and celebrated special events with them.  They live in our town, have worked with us, and are related to our friends.  They are people we know and like and trust.  We don’t fear them because Islam is their religion.

IRAQI-AMERICAN MUSLIMS CELEBRATE IN DEARBORN OUSTER OF HUSSEINI’m quite sure that we’re not unusual in knowing and working with Muslims.  America still remains a melting pot where people of different nationalities, colors, and faiths can come and pursue their dreams, without being shackled by caste systems or tribal ancestry or corrupt political systems.  In America, a person’s religious faith is just one aspect of their persona.  It doesn’t immutably define them, and it certainly shouldn’t cause them to be targeted.

That’s why comments like the one Ted Cruz made yesterday are so . . . appalling.  In the wake of the latest ISIS-supported bombings…

Who would be hit by the candidates’ tax plans?

Phil Ebersole's Blog

Source: Kevin Drum.

Analysts for the Tax Policy Center, which previously analyzed the Rubio, Cruz, Trump and Clinton tax plans, released its analysis of the Sanders tax plan on Friday.

What it shows is that the Republican candidates would reduce taxes for everybody, but mainly for the rich, and the Democratic candidates – Bernie Sanders much more than Hillary Clinton – would increase taxes for everybody, but mainly for the rich.

Other things being equal, tax cuts are better than tax hikes, and low taxes are better than high taxes.  The issue is how necessary are the things that the taxes go to pay for.

The Republican candidates’ argument is that much government spending is wasteful and unnecessary, and that the important think is to allow wealthy people to accumulate capital.  Economic growth created by private investment will be best for the country in the long run.

Bernie Sanders’…

Louise Mensch and American Republicans Demand War with Iran

The West and especially America should stop meddling in Middle East affairs to which they have no comprehension.

Much of the creation of ISIS and other like organisations as been due to the Wests involvement. To follow the path of Republicism and Louise Mensch will invoke WWIII from which very few of the Worlds population are likely to survive.

Mike over at Vox Political has this piece reporting an article in the Canary commenting on the latest frenzy of sabre-rattling and jingoism from former Tory MP and full-time airhead motormouth, Louise Mensch: http://voxpoliticalonline.com/2016/01/15/this-renowned-tory-wants-to-blunder-into-full-blown-war-with-iran/. Yesterday, an American ship strayed into Iranian waters and was duly captured. Its crew were later released. According to the Canary, the American military ain’t bothered by the incident. They’ve said it was a genuine mistake. So, from their point of view, it’s ‘My bad, no problem, guys!’

This isn’t good enough for the Repugs by far, and the usual suspects have worked themselves into a frenzy demanding Obama bomb them back into the Stone Age. The pro-war party naturally includes the usual recidivists like Tom Cruz. Cruz is almost as bad as Trump in his hatred of Muslims, but it more concealed about it. And in some of his proposed policies, he’s actually worse. He…
