Trump’s support of Erdogan shows exactly what Trump is and how he would really wish to govern America.

Josep Goded

Trump’s connections with a large number of dictatorships has raised several questions about his morality and political convictions. Since he became president, numerous human rights organizations have protested against him for welcoming human rights violators onto US soil. However, Trump has always denied those accusations, claiming that classic tyrants such as Al-Sisi (Egypt) and Erdogan (Turkey) are US allies who lead free countries.

Despite Trump’s efforts to manipulate public opinion, the recent visit of the Turkish Prime Minister Recep Erdogan caused a political earthquake. During his visit to the Turkish embassy in Washington DC on Monday, Erdogan ordered his bodyguards to attack people who were peacefully protesting against him. As result, a number of protesters were injured and needed medical assistance. A few hours before that regrettable incident, Trump said:

We have had a great relationship and we will make it even better.”

Today, we face a…

Macron, who in all likelihood will be elected president of France, is a servant of this global corporate imperialism, but so is Trump despite his original nationalistic and non-interventionist rhetoric of a supposed outsider. Plus cela change, plus c’est la même chose, until la France Insoumise decides to forget the ballot box and take its revolt into the streets. (Gilbert Mercier)

In the UK, over the last 18 months, we have also seen Jeremy Corbyn ridiculed and attacked relentlessly. Corbyn has been described by prominent figures in the Conservative government as a threat to security and as a threat to Britain. He has been demonised in a similar to Putin. Corbyn was always going to be a target for the Establishment because he swims against the Washington consensus of neoliberal capitalism, war and imperialism. (Colin Todhunter)

Just who is telling the truth, is it propaganda on both sides.

In any conflict it is not just the innocent that suffer, but also the truth.

The innocents should be the prime consideration on all sides of any conflict, not the last, as is shown and proven many times.

As well as appearing on Counterpunch’s website, Theodore A. Postol also appeared on RT, and his analysis of the Sarin gas attack in Syria was also covered by Jimmy Dore. Postol is the emeritus professor of Science, Technology and National Security at MIT. He concluded that, contrary to what the American government and Syrian rebels were saying, the poison gas that killed the people of Khan Shaykhun was not dropped as a bomb from a plane, but was released from an improved ground-based weapon, about 12 cm long. Trump and the American media have claimed that the attack was the responsibility of Assad, and launched an attack by Tomohawk missiles on the air force base, from which the attack was supposedly launched, in reprisal.

In this video, Dore savagely critiques the statements of Trump, Sean Spicer and other members of the White House. He makes the point that the American…

Saudi Arabia some many human rights abuses and ruled by Saudi Royal family under extreme Sharia law and some terrorists have been from Saudi, but Saudi was not part of Donald Trump’s executive order. Does this mean President Donald Trump agrees with the rulings of law in Saudi , for such an outspoken person he appears to be quiet about this.

Or is he indicating it is Fake News or is it Alternative facts.

Josep Goded

For years, Saudi Arabia has had the honour to be one of the principal violators of human rights in the world. Regardless of its efforts to hide it from the international community, numerous local human rights organisations have regularly exposed the abuses perpetrated by the regime. In response, the Saudi government has banned all international human rights organisations from entering Saudi Arabia. As numerous organisations have suggested, the primary problem remains in the system and the interpretation of the Sharia (Islamic law).

Saudi Arabia uses Sharia (Islamic law) as its domestic legislation. There is no a formal penal code; the criminal justice court derives its interpretation from an extreme version of Sharia. In most of cases, detainees do not have a fair trial and are not allowed to meet with a lawyer during their interrogations. Further, the authorities do not usually inform them about their charges until…

America voted Trump in now they are reaping what they sowed, but is it too late for action to suppress the slide into authoritarian order. We can only hope it is not.

In Upper New York Bay stands the colossal statue of Liberty, a universal symbol of freedom. It is also the Mother of immigrants, embodying hope and opportunity for those seeking a better life in America. It stirs the desire for liberty in people all over the world. It represents the United States itself. However…Last week, the flame of the freedom from its torch has started to extinguish.ocaso sol estatua libertad simbolismo.jpgIn hardly two weeks, President Trump’s unlawful decisions and his unprecedented pressures on judges to fail in his favour have shaken the fundamentals of U.S. Democracy. For many, it indicates that Trump has various hidden plans to turn the U.S. system into an authoritarian to gain power. However, it won’t be possible without dominating the Supreme Court.supreme-courtThe U.S. Supreme Court is the final court of appeal and final expositor of the Constitution of the United States. Opher's World

These seem to be some of the main proposals:

  1. To bring back torture
  2. To intensify the war in the Middle East (a second war on terror? – didn’t the first one spawn ISIS?)
  3. To alienate Iran
  4. To build a pipeline regardless of environmental impact and treaties with the native Americans
  5. To tear up environmental treaties – denying climate change, environment destruction and pollution
  6. To do away with Health Care for poorer people
  7. To do away with legislation on health and safety, work standards and pollution
  8. To reinvigorate dirty polluting industries (coal, oil, gas, fracking ……)
  9. To bully Mexico and start a trade war so he can say they paid for the wall
  10. To ban Muslims from a number of countries from entering America
  11. To build a wall
  12. To tear up trade deals
  13. To ban all forms of protest and marches

Freedom of Press needs protecting at all costs, otherwise any administration is free to do as they please, in other words a dictatorship will occur. and your human rights will disappear.

Josep Goded

Donald Trump will be soon sworn in as president of the United States of America. Before that happens, Trump is occupied choosing the future members of his cabinet while the international community is fretting over this because, apparently, it will include racists, climate change deniers, and human rights violators.

There are fears that Trump’s cabinet will try to reform the system to re-centralize power and restrict the freedom of the press. In such a context, the U.S. media and freelance journalists are preparing themselves to work under restrictive conditions to circumvent the upcoming censorship.

During the last campaign, the tandem Bannon/Trump launched an unprecedented mass attack on the U.S. media to convince people that critical journalists were criminals. (Clinton did something similar by ordering some media to hide her misconduct during her term as Secretary of State).

As far as we know, during Trump’s…

It is certainly worrying times.

Stephanos Ioannou

From its beginnings, Democracy has opened the way for people with overweening ambition, who employ lies, division and bigotry to achieve their goals. From ancient Athens to modern Europe, we have often seen leaders who challenged the endurance of the political system. But however many wounds those people caused, the democratic system repeatedly proved that it could heal them and lead citizens back towards stability and prosperity. As long as there was some force to restore democracy, the way the United States did in Europe twice last century.

Seldom, though, has a person been able to wield so much power as the US president today, and, at the same time, seldom has an elected leader seemed so unqualified to wield that power as does Donald Trump. The United States’ technological and military superiority, its economic power, its history as winner of two world wars and guarantor of the international order…

But what do experts know?

—————————————————————————————

Sterling’s near 20 percent plunge following Britain’s vote in June to leave the European Union has brought the currency to the ideal rate for the UK economy, according to a Reuters poll of economists taken in the past few days.

That plunge, however, has already begun to stoke inflation, posing a challenge for Britons and the Bank of England alike via more expensive imports, with prices of some of Britain’s best-known items set to rise in the shops.

The poll also found the BoE, which targets inflation at 2 percent, would stomach it rising from 1 percent currently to 3.5 percent next year before considering changing the neutral stance it only just shifted to from an easing bias last week.

The range of responses from economists on the central bank’s tolerance level for inflation was wide, from 3 to 6 percent. Two-thirds of respondents in the Nov 4-7 poll were based in the United Kingdom.

Several of the usual participants in Reuters polls declined to give a view on the ideal exchange rate, with some saying there wasn’t one. Others said how volatile the currency had become was more of an issue than the actual exchange rate.
